James:  Sounds to me like its either a a sticky injector or a bad plug
or boot/connector.  Do the "pull the injector connector" trick at idle
to determine which cylinder is the problem and then check that
plug/boot/ If the plug and boot are good, then try swapping the
injectors between cylinders.  If the miss moves with the injector, then
its the injector.  (OR test the injectors first and then check the
plug/boot).

Other than the coil possibility which you are pursuing, the only other
things are POS (which you say is fine) and a bent/burnt valve.  The last
one will act up until the engine is warm (and the valves and seats have
expanded).  (BTDT on a "hot rod" 1.6L 8V Jetta that I over-revved
(missed a 1-2 shift)).  This can be checked by a cold compression test.
The problem cylinder will be way down on compression.
