[s-cars] exhaust manifold studs

Bolts are just not a good idea for several reasons:
-You are threading into a blind hole and if it's too long you may not be
able to torque it down properly, or worse, damage the head.
-The head of the bolt will be larger than the nut size used on the stud
(13mm vs. 12mm) and may not fit as it is a very tight area.
-The factory nuts have a locking feature to prevent them from backing out
(hmmm, could this have been the root of your original problem?) while the
bolt won't.
-Common hardware store bolt/studs won't be made of the proper material and
will erode over time due to the heat.
The only way to do this right is to use the factory studs.
The factory stud for the RS2 EM is part number N 906 486 01. These are M8 x
27 studs. The part numbers for the nuts and washers are N 902 002 01 and N
900 955 01.
I don't believe the dealer carries the RS2 studs, but then again they might
surprise you. They will definitely have the nuts and washers as those are
common. What some folks have done is to get the studs for the stock
manifold, p/n N 901 889 02, and cut these down as they are longer. The size
of those is M8 x 35. You may not need to cut them down for both locations
depending on the clearance.
