Let me revise my post- the STi does not handle as well as an E46 in
the dry, but it still is awfully fun to drive. Autox'ed the car for
the first time today and found that understeer was the predominant
handling characteristic when you pushed the car hard. However, on the
street, it is LOTS of fun to drive, just not that great at autox.
The Evo smokes the STi in handling- I drove both of them before buying
the STi and found that I couldn't live with the very harsh ride and
too-short gearing of the Evo (the STi's gearing is still pretty short,
but not as bad as the Evo for a daily drive).
Had I an unlimited budget, I would pick the Evo as the track car and
get a S4 V8 for a daily driver- actually, I'd get a Z06 for a track
car and the S4 V8.
