Subject: [s-cars] Night at the Dragstrip With the S4
I just thought I would share my results from the other night at the
dragstrip.
The Car:
1992 UrS4. Only modification was a chip, otherwise totally stock even down
to the all-season 15x7.5 speedlines The chip was a loaner from Chad Clark
(Thanks Chad!) produced by Steve Eiche with the VMAP sensor. The sensor was
set at the "2.8" setting.
The track and conditions:
The track was Bandimere Speedway in Morrison, CO. Elevation is 5800 feet.
Very high humidity as it stopped raining at 4:45 and the track wasn't
finished being "dried" until 7:00, let's just say I am glad I was racing a
Quattro car and not my '72 Firebird. Temperature was approx. 55 degrees F
for most of the night.
I got to make 5 runs. 4 runs were between 14.66 seconds and 14.97 seconds
with the 5th run being a horrible botch at the starting line resulting in a
15.20. The MPH trap speeds were all between 93.1 and 94.2. All runs, with
the exception of one experimental run, were finished in 3rd gear at about
6700 rpm.
The 14.66 run was a pretty good launch with a 2.05 second 60 foot time, so
anybody who says you can't get these cars out of the hole is full of it;
that's only 0.1 seconds more than what I could do with my '87 GTA with a
fuel injected V-8 at sea level with unbelievable throttle response.
There was a good Audi showing there. There was a UrS6 there with an MTM
chip that I think was running around 14.9 to 15.1. There were a few B5 S4's
there. A couple with full Sportec stage 3 conversions running between 12.9
to 13.7 seconds. There were also a couple of custom jobs there. An Audi 90
with a 10 valve custom setup that I have seen run high 12's in the past
didn't quite have the traction to get there that night. Also a very nice 20
valve stroker (2.5L) in a Quattro Coupe that ran as low as a 12.6. Really a
great bunch of guys out there. The only unfortunate part was there were no
M-3s to spank. Last time I was out with my Firebird there was a whole
gathering of M-3's running 14.9 to 15.x. Only a lone 525 running 17+
seconds this time :)
Just thought I would share the results for everybody's "notebooks".

Thanks for sharing Calvin. I'd ran mine back in Aug. but didn't have the
time to write about it, good to be able to compare my results with another,
esp. someone I knew was a bit of a dragger there. Dig the Firechicken BTW,
good year!
Anyway... August, NE Dragway NH, 80 degrees, sea level. Stock K24, Mihnea
tune, LWFW, 6 spd, dahlback WGVF, removed tbody restrictor, porky 17x8 Avus.
Best was a 14.609 @ 96.75, with a 2.134 60'. Jim Pasqualoni also ran his
RS2'd car and saw lower ET's but 100mph traps, he botched the launch a bit
and lost 60' time tho...
Seeing your #'s is good, was wondering if I'd left anything on the table.
Didn't think so as all 5 of my runs were virtually cloned, I typically run
consistent.
Not the quickest drag cars, but decent traps and agreed, not a shabby 60'
for a 4k pig... but who cares really cause it's a bungload of fun
regardless. Again, tx for sharing datapoints.
-Paul like to run any form of event for the gigglefactor and not the
fastfactor K.
ps. hmmm... recollection tells me that my MTM 1+ setup only got me a 14.8
or 14.9 the previous 2 years' I'd run it there, as did Rossato thereabouts
with his Pastore "1+" chip... good also to see ours were similar to that
other 1+ car you saw.
pps. your 'spank mates' sure are more Euro than in NH... lots 'o vintage
muscle here, cool to watch. Your 2.5 stroker UrQ mate is cool but the
Peterbuilt tractor (as in tractor trailer) I ran my 2.3-16 against years
back took the cake! Holy smoke show, both tires and stacks...
