Scott-
I have to disagree about 1/4 mile times- those big turbos will do just
fine at the dragstrip, once they're spooled. You need to witness that
Kentucky Audi shop owner's 20v UrQ going down the 1320 to see exactly
what I mean- slow start, then it's like someone flipped a switch-
BANG, and the car is sling-shotted down the strip. That was some sort
of K27 hybrid, IIRC.
In terms of real-world driveability, you're absolutely correct- the
RS2 makes a nice compromise between top-end power and low-end
driveability. For an example outside of the Audi circle, the X50 kit
on the 996tt does not improve lap times significantly over a stock
996tt on most of the track comparisons I've seen, due to the lag of
twin K24s versus K16s.
This is precisely the reason why I'm hesitant to swap to a larger
turbo on my car as it has a very sweet torque delivery out of the box.
