[s-cars] MAF location

I wasn't going to put my oar in here, given how far back I am in email,
but the messages on this topic suggest no conclusion was reached. An
IAS sensor measures (approximately) mass flow, not actual speed through
the air. That is why one wants to land the 747 at the same IAS number
no matter what the altitude.

And I wouldn't compare this to sailboats. Square riggers are pushed by
mass air flow, but more modern sailboats depend on the air to cause lift
in the sail, as well as form the sail's shape, which hopes to
approximate an airfoil. What functions of speed and speed density are
applicable are unknown to me.

The air speed after the intercooler through a pipe the same size as the
MAF will be lower than at the present MAF position because the density
is higher. Mass flow should read the same if one has a true mass flow
sensor (which hot wire annemometers more or less approximate). But I
wouldn't put it there unless I had a really good intercooler ahead of it.
