16 x 7.5 is the size of the stock Avus wheel, if you are going with
17's, then use either a 7.5 or 8 inch width, 7 inch is too narrow for
the recommended tire sizes.

I'd stick with 35 mm.

225/45-17 is the closest tire size and will work well on a 7.5 or 8 inch
rim. Or if you want to go wider, 245 or 255/40-17 are very close to the
same rolling circumference. I'm running 255's on my 1997 S6 on a 17x8,
ET 35 with no problems, it's a tad wide for my taste, I may drop back
down to 225's when these wear out.

I can send you a cool Excel spreadsheet developed by a local car
enthusiast that does all the calculations and comparisons of different
tire sizes and offsets if you want, let me know.
