Mike,

The cheapest way to improve the lows is to fit 9005 in the low beam socket
and clean the lens. Probably not as effective as 9012/11 but can be done in
one evening. Cleaning the lens won't harm anyway and fiting a 9005 bulb in
the low beam involve bulb socket modification, not the harness socket, so
you can change your mind if you don't like it. Detailed information are
somewhere deep into the archive.

Vincent.

Mike,

I'm one of those whom thought the 9012/11 conversion is worth the effort.
The lows fill in nicely, and with a little judicious aiming, are really
quite effective, totally blowing away the Euro's in my 200Q (probably the
equal of the 7" round Euro's in my now deceased GTi, so can't do a head to
head comparo). The high
beams, as Paul has mused, are downright RIDICULOUS. I haven't found a
straight long enough to find the total reflective range of the
the beams. The road curves or dips LONG before they run out.
The only disappointment with the low beams is the US pattern (only works for
DOT projectors) loses the Euro kick up, so the lighting to the side and of
street signs isn't up to the par of Euros, otherwise nothing lacking in
terms of lighting performance. And, this is with moderately pitted DOT
lenses and no relays.
Go for it! You won't be disappointed.
