I punched a hole in the dashboard to the left of the steering column just
below the walnut trim.  It's a tight fit, but it works.

I've got a VDO gauge.  I guess it's the Vision gauge (been so long I don't
remember) because it's backlit.  The gauge operates smoothly and has
performed flawlessly.  The lighting is so-so.  I used the red condom that
came with it and it's a redder red than the Audi lighting (which leans more
toward orange, in comparison).  And the lighting isn't nearly as evenly
distributed as on the factory gauges.  But since it's not close to the other
gauges it doesn't look terribly out-of-place.
