Not necessarliy worried in the sense of safety, but if I can avoid the hassel then I would like too... I don't want to cut into the bumper because:
a. I don't want to cut slits into the bumper cover, but then again seeing Bob's red Avant looked really good....
b. I'm not so sure that big of an intercooler is really needed... ok if you going for big HP like Hap, but if your going mildly above RS2 levels, something smaller that doesn't require rebar hacking should be still be a big improvement over stock...
c. If you don't cut slits into the front bumper then I don't see what the point of having a bigger IC, your not flowing air through the fins to cool it down... or does that not make sense?
/Jamu.

OK, I don't get it. Why are people worried about modifying the bumper? Done right you would not even notice if you didn't know the car. I'm sure most of you have seen pictures but if you need more pics to see that it looks fine let me know, also as most of you know I totaled my S4 with the FMIC and modified bumper and it held up great. The intercooler even survived and the cut bumper core was hardly bent.

For anyone interested in doing a FMIC without modifying the bumper, here's the space you have to work with...
I wanted to see what the 26x8x3.5 Intercooler I saw on e-bay would look like so I made a cardboard mock-up, and sure enough it's just a tad too big, it could fit but I'd have to relocate the oil line in front of the A/C core and it would be right up against the A/C core (no air flow).
I measured the usuable space that you would have assuming you would not cut into the bumper:
Smallest space on either side from A/C core to bumper is 3.5 inches but that assumes moving the oil line in front, otheriwise 3 inches is tops. In the middle of the bumper, because of the curve, you have 5 inches tops.
