Elijah,
On the kit that Marc and I are working on, we started with some basic
guidelines. The FMIC needed to:
Be effective - provide a reasonable gain
Be cheap - around $1k for all the parts
Be easy to install - this would preclude cutting the bummer beam. Alas,
some trimming of the bumper cover is still required.
Preserve the stock look of the car - at S Fest some people did not notice
the FMIC in my car until others pointed it out.
Sure, slotting the bumper leaving the lower grills off provides the best
flow, but there is sooo much room for improvement over stock that is it
possible to install an effective FMIC without extensive mods. And you get
to keep the stealth look. (Although I must admit it was tons of fun seeing
the surprise on the fart can pilots that I passed as I drove over to Marc's
the other night sans front bumper - he,he)
BTW, we need to do some dyno testing soon, but so far my very scientific
testing (which involves beating the piss out of my car, stopping quickly,
and jumping out to touch the inlet and outlet of the intercooler) has shown
that the intercooler works really well (a scientific term)...and this is
with the bumper, grills, and license plate in place.
Currently we are looking for a local source for bracket and pipes.

OK, I don't get it. Why are people worried about modifying the bumper? Done
right you would not even notice if you didn't know the car. I'm sure most of
you have seen pictures but if you need more pics to see that it looks fine
let me know, also as most of you know I totaled my S4 with the FMIC and
modified bumper and it held up great. The intercooler even survived and the
cut bumper core was hardly bent.
Elijah
