cartridge out of the changer.....again) and found part of the wiring
harness that i had never seen back there before. i don't have the EKTA,
but part nuber is 4AO 971 172 A.
>>has a LPT1 connection on it and thought it was at first a terminal to
tap into the ECU and jumped for joy. that was quickly followed by: "why
would my car be the ONLY one ever to have that?" enough to say the
thought left very quickly.
Matt,
That sounds like the connection for the factory phone. Assuming that by
"LPT1 connection" you mean a DB-25 connector, it would normally be plugged
into the Motorola transciever for the factory phone. The transciever is
about the size of a brick.
This connector has pins for power, mic, speaker, and radio mute, and also 8
pins that run up to an RJ-45 ("Ethernet") connector in the center console
into which the factory phone handset connects.
It is possible to hack the DB-25 connector in the boot to assist in the
instllation of a hands-free kit, however, hooking the factory mic circuit
directly to the handsfree kit results in very poor quality sound! Speaking
from experience here.

'95 urS6 with very poor quality hands-free sound... at least it makes the
Bose sound good by comparison! :-)
