This could well be true.  Unfortunately, I don't have such a downpipe to 
test.  Maybe at some point.  Can't help but wonder why it was designed that way.  
Certainly, a dual exhaust costs more to produce... 2 cats, dual inlet/outlet 
mufflers.  So, that leads me to believe there was some engineering rational for 
its use.  But that's pure speculation...
