Chris,
It's my understanding that with a lot of systems, the vehicle unit
will learn the remotes, rather than the remotes learning the vehicle
unit.
Based on this, your wish should be no problem.
Perusing the manuals of a couple systems, this seems to be the case:
Code Alarm:
http://www.codl.com/manuals/owners/CA630_OM.pdf
Commando:
http://www.commandoalarms.com/CS30manual.pdf
They both infer that you teach the vehicle unit what remotes will be
used. So nothing should stop you from teaching two vehicles to
respond to the same remote.
I have a code alarm and it works pretty well. There are some strange
interactions with the factory alarm though.
For instance, normally you can set the system up so that it unlocks
the driver door only on the first unlock, then all doors with the
second unlock. With my system, the shop had to use the first unlock
to turn off the self-arming factory alarm, and then the 2nd unlock
unlocks all the door.
The 2nd odd thing is that the factory alarm auto arms within a few
seconds of turning the car off (which disables the normal door unlock
switch on the door). So you either have to unlock the doors using the
door switch before it does, or you have to use the fob to unlock the
doors.
I wouldn't suggest doing an auto-start feature in this manner though!!!
Cheers,
Keith
