[s-cars] Bad brake check-valve??

I'm being distracted from my quest to spend more time
and money on go-fast stuff - my brakes are pretty much
on strike. Can't get the brake light to go off today.
I guess I need to pay some attention :(

My brake light stays on, and I feel the brake pedal
pulsating. I can actually hear a metallic pulsating
noise in sync with the pedal pulse from somewhere
close to the firewall (seems like it anyway). But
when I open the hood the noise cannot be heard. Get
back in the car and shut the door, sure enough, the
noise is still there. I can hear it at idle. It goes
up and down in frequency with rpm.

Here's the thing. The car has done this on 3 separate
occasions over the last 3 months. After several hours
of this it goes back to normal and the brakes work
100% fine. With the car off I can pump the brakes 30
times before they are hard.

One other thing. When the brakes are supposedly
working "fine", if I keep my foot on the brake for a
couple minutes the brake light comes on. Usually if I
pick up the idle it will go away. But again, if I
pump the brake with the car off it would take 30 pumps
to go hard.

So - my best guess is that my brake pressure
accumulator (bomb) has a bad check-valve. But it's
not worn out.

I was sure enough of this diagnosis to buy a new bomb
from Blau. Now I'm getting cold feet before actually
replacing it. What do you guys think? What else
could it be?

Mike
