Anyway, I have refinished a couple of 5KTQ shift knobs myself.
Carefully cut the leather at the top and remove leather.
Underneath is wood.
Sand wood surface real good and then put about 4 or 5 coats of polyurethane on.
Turns out looking like a stock wood finish and you don't loose the shift pattern on top.
I find the natural wood finish looks and feels probably nicer than the original lather.

Spheres, 110,000 miles on the beast and it¹s shedding the leather on the shifter. Any leads on sources for new/aftermarket knobs with the ® in the top left? Chris Holinger
