The 12K number is based on A6 sales, I would guess.
Regardless of outcome, buy the car back and either
part it out (if you have the time/energy) or sell it
whole on Audifans or on eBay. Most folks seem to
recoup some of the loss this way.
Good luck.

An uninsured motorist just ran a red light and
totaled our 95 S6 Avant.
The insurance company is only offering the
standard 'retail' valuation
from NADA which is around $12,500. They are claiming
these numbers are
calculated from "actual sales", I'd like to hear from
any of you that
have bought or sold a 95 S6 Avant in the last year.
I'm hoping I can
build a strong case to document 'actual sales' which
will confirm the
actual value is much higher.
If you've bought or sold an Avant in the last 12
months please just send
me a quick note with the following:
Date of sale
Mileage
Location
Purchase price
Source: Dealer or Individual
Finally, I'm considering purchasing the car back from
the insurance
company and selling off the parts. The damage is all
in front of the
engine. It appears the engine and everything behind
it is still in
great shape. If you're looking for any major parts I
might be able to
help you out.
Thanks a lot,
Robert Welch
