If this helps...
You can adjust the front Konis quite easily while they are installed in the
car. You just have to get the weight off the strut and then you can
remove the strut mount...Then use a 6mm allen socket w/extension to compress
the strut and adjust it. Once you get the procedure down, you can adjust
each side in about 5 minutes.... then take it for a spin and bring it back
and repeat...

Iain,
I have to agree with you on your assessment of Bilstiens. I have the
Sports on my S6 and find them too harsh. A couple friends have Koni
Sports on their S6 and 200 20v and I find them more comfortable even
with the same/similar springs. However, the adjutability of the Konis
is a mixed blessing as you can get it wrong and have to pull them out
to change them. Also the Konis tend to get soft as they wear, where
the Bilstiens remain consitent over their life.
Another friend had a set of Bilstiens custom valved for the corner
weights of the car and spring rates that he used. It turned out great
and I'm thinking about going that route. He told them he was after
"ride quality" and that's exactly what he got.
Good luck,
Rich
