At risk of getting flamed on this one:
Run lighter oil. Not great for the engine, but might get you one extra
horsepower and a mpg. That's the reason so many new cars are running
5w30. "energy saving oil" Some racers who can afford to do engine
rebuilds will run lighter oil for some extra power.
A properly charged battery will also effect mileage. No joke! A friend
of mine works in a lab where they generate EPA city/highway numbers, and
they keep the car on a battery tender. I'm sure there are other things
that will have more of an effect than these little things.
Another data point-My stock 95 gets about 22 on a mostly highway ~31
miles to work.

Ok, so you're saying there is something worse off in my car. Just as
additional data point, the O2 was done last year along with the TB and a
new thermostat and suspension:)
The car ran like butt with the thermo ghandi, but that is a thing of the
past. Heats up (in my limited commute) just fine. As I said, my drive
is all stop and go, don't come close to sniffing the highway. My daily
drive sounds like Bill's, all stop, barely any go. There is no
accounting for Lead Foot Paul and his miraculous mileage based on
driving style, not Larry and his short drive unless it is downhill both
ways....
Well, if it is another problem, what would it be? The car is running
way rich because it never heats up fully??? Guess there is no cure for
that other than take a long (real long) way around to work.
Any other hints???
Riff (perhaps I should just lead foot it and not care )
