You may, and sorry for the NAC but I'm sure there are others here
curious.
It's an E46, Dinan software, exhaust, huge brakes, 19" wheels, 285 rear
PS2 tires 255 fronts, coilovers, shift kit, etc.. Impressions? Eh.
Mixed. Car's just got no torque, not even remotely close to my stage 1
UrS. But it goes like STINK, and easy. And sounds WORLDS better now
with the new exhaust, them cars stock sound like ground up ass. Big
time. Shifter was real nice, typical BMW.
He's got to sort out the coil overs, as they undulate unacceptably,
pitching the car fore and aft slight enough to drive you nuts. Them
enormous tires make up for a lot of sin, he drove me through an off ramp
I was sure we'd stuff the barrier as he'd taken in in 4th, coasting (um,
learn to drop gear and power through already), my hole puckered but the
thing stayed DEAD FLAT and stuck like f'n GLUE. I was blown away, my
guess is the 285s 'helped'.
The brakes are AWESOME (something like 14.6" fronts, ? rears), but the
red calipers have THE gayest Dinan logo in white on them. Blech. The
19" wheels are real striking, a bit too bling for me but hey if that's
what you like I guess.
All in all I kept with the GT3 pretty well in it, considering though the
driver at the time was 'supposed' to adhere to its 4,200 break in limit
(no way he did, I mostly did and could tell he wasn't). Under WOT, the
GT3 would have had it beat by a bit at least. Similar cars though in
terms of throttle response, power delivery, and hook up. And lack of
torque. Getting back into my POS after both those, I STILL smiled at my
prodigious torque. Still love that.
Would I MUCH rather your purty lil yellow E36 Cabby??? F YEAH! The E46
is markedly heavier, with higher center of gravity, and somehow too
twitchy too nervy. And for me, as much car as it is, capable, and as
cool as I thought they were when they came out, man, can you say German
IROC??? Not my scene, no thanks. Give me an E30 and call it a day 8-).
MUCH more of back to back comparo's to be had, assuredly the GT3, my
buddy's GT2, and Mr. Dinan ///M3's 996tt will all be getting together
like next week or there about for some 'fun'. Stay looned, er, tooned.
Or something.
-Paul
ps. hey isn't D'Amato's Cosworth Escort due to arrive here in CT like
yesterday??? Stay further mwuahahahahaha tooned...
