Subject: [s-cars] 245/40-17 or 255/40-17 - which should I buy?

It's time for new skins for my car and I'm debating which size to buy.
The patient is a 95 S6 with 2-Bennett coilovers and Koni adjustable
shocks all around with 2-Bennett front camber plates (2nd generation).
The wheels are 17x8.5 ET 38. I'm confident the 245/40 will fit and
clear without any troubles, but can the extra 10mm width that comes with

the 255 fit without rubbing? What does the list think? Will it only
rub at full lock? What about with 4 passengers? (but that is a rare
day) The car is not tracked - yet, but these will be my summer only
street tires.

Just need some wisdom from other's experiences with the different sizes
and what I can expect.

TIA,

Paul Dooley

Other Paul-

Judging from your suspension / wheel combo Paul I'd venture a guess
you'd be a good candidate to 'benefit' from the added 10mm 8-). Go for
it.

With 29771s / Bilsteins, my Conti 255/40Y17s rubbed ever so slightly at
full lock in reverse mostly (don't ask, many do this), on the rear side
of fender / outer tire edge. Wore very slight quarter size hole through
the liner, and the paint. Nice and shiny. Not a sign of rot 3 years
later heh heh. No more nor less with fully loaded car.

Not to mention 255s look da BALLS on these cars, fill things out ever so
nicely. 10mm makes a difference. I'm picturing these on your Cup
wheels and am already chuckling an evil chuckle 8-).

- Paul ordered my 255/40/Y17 $130 each Tire Crack CUM-HO MX's Friday
can't wait to slap em on, then slap em K.
