I own and have used the $10 generic cube solution for various Hondas,
Passats, and Audis- it works but is a real pain to press and ratchet
at the same time. The tool type as shown ($40 Harbor Freight) is a
real treat in comparison - IMHO worth the extra money, I need to order
one.

FWIW - If anyone is considering the latest A6, or a new A8, you'll
need a new tool . The TRW Electric park brake thread pitch on those
is different than the thread pitch of a normal TRW/VAG integrated rear
park brake.

As a result, using the normal tool will really screw things up.(pun intended!)
You shouldn't be able to use the normal too anyway, as the piston will
either have NO slots (in this case only chance is to have it retracted
by sending the EPB a command through the VAG tester) or three slots
(to match the new tool, and prevent old tools from being used...).

Cheers,
Keith
