[s-cars] Need to replace my radio - Advice Needed

Same problem here.  My volume control knob is acting funky.
 
Any way I purchased a used one and asked the seller to give me a bill  of 
sale with his vin & serial # of the vehicle he is parting/radio so that  
hopefully the local stealer does not give me a hard time when it comes time to  reset 
the security code.
 
I recall reading that it was possible to take apart radio and fix the  volume 
control knob - but I purchased the replacement for less than $100.
 
Maybe one of the audi dismantlers has one?
