Mark,
I bought the Porter Cable unit myself a couple years back also. Groits has a very unique backplate that has holes in it for cooling. I have had heat issues with the glue holding on the velcro backingplate getting soft and loose and pad having a mind of it's own. I am ordering a different backing plate in hopes problem will be solved. Groits will not sell you their plate you get with their high$$$$ setup. You do get that fancy plate and a carry case for your money though.
I cheaped out and saved like $100 shopping on line. I don't have the case but it fits nicely in the box it came in anyway. Choice is yours.
I really am happy with the machine though. I have used it to polish out overspray, orange peel, and for general polishing and waxing. Bulletproof stuff Porter Cable makes.
Nice article on this polisher:

Good luck.

I spent a good part of Sunday washing, cleaning and waxing my now very
clean
Emerald on Ecru //S6. My buddy did the same with his A8L. We got to
talking about the merits of a power buffer over using good 'ole elbow
grease
and decided to share in the cost of a nice "system" seeing as we live
about
1 mile apart. I am leaning towards a Porter Cable 6" Random Orbital
machine. If you would let me know your thoughts both pro and con I
would
appreciate it.
