[s-cars] Speedy driving and the driveshaft

Well,
Before tipping my hand... keep in mind that I was driving in Nevada, with no
other cars in sight. Max possible headcount of 3 if things went wrong (me,
the car, and maybe a prairie dog).

So, I was going along at a buck forty or so... the car, smooth as can be.
However, there is what I'd describe as a low frequency vibration throughout
the car. To me, the symptoms of an out of balance driveshaft, based on my past
experience.

I start thinking about a car with nearly 200k miles on it, and the fact that
it has a more or less unserviceable driveshaft. Likely, the joints have
never received grease. I think it's probable that the center bearing has never
been replaced as well.

Any BTDT out there on these driveshafts? Anyone actually went the OE route
and simply replaced the entire assembly? If so, do you recall what "getting
the shaft" cost you?

As a sidebar... on this trip (again in very remote surroundings), I thought
I had met the match I've often wondered about... yes, I caught up to an actual
RS6. However, he had other ideas... refusing to respond to 2 very clear
attempts on my part to play. Ah well, perhaps another day.

Take care,
Dave back in Idaho.
