[s-cars] Wheel Well Height

Is the pressure of a gas charged strut really enough to affect the 
height of the car?   I thought it was nitrogen charged just to prevent 
the breakdown (or something) of the oil and increase the life of the 
strut, but not to affect the function or performance.   ??
