I made a trip from Vancouver to Tofino on Tuesday and I noticed during the trip that the coolant temp was only about 70 deg C (instead of 89 deg C). Hmmm. Both the Multifunction Temperature Switch (MFTS) and the thermostat are only two years old. Can't be either but it has to be one of them. I posted to the list and several people suggested it could be either but probably the thermostat.
I changed the plugs yesterday. All of them were generally black. Hmmm..ECU thinks its cold out and has added more fuel (running rich). Not good.
So today I made a trip from Vancouver to Penticton (south of Kelowna on Lake Okanagan). I ran the HVAC to monitor the coolant temp (Hit and hold recirc, then hit and hold the vent up arrow, when the temp goes out, hit the + temp key to scroll to channel 51, then hit recirc again. The display is the coolant temp.
The good news: the MFTS is fine. Both the gauge and HVAC read out were the same (both low). The temps were in the 72 deg C range while underway (went to 90 deg C going through a small town). The bad news: So that means the thermostat is stuck open. <insert expletive here >
Something else to fix. Oh, boy.
