[s-cars] ECT Sensor - Bosch vs. FAE

So we have an ECT as well as an MFTS? If the MFTS sensor's purpose is
to provide coolant temp information to the ECU, then what does the ECT
do? Is it failure of the MFTS sensor that forces the ECU into
fail-safe limp mode thus running rich and retarding timing? Just
trying to understand the sensor dynamics in this engine.
As far as I know from previous vehicles owned, the failure of the ECT
threw the ECU into closed loop limp mode of operation thus running
rich, lowering mileage and rough idle. On the other hand, they never
had symptoms of stalling. Can a MAF or the IAT sensor be dirty enough
to where this scenario could happen?
(Do we have an IAT sensor?)
Thanks.

Abhijit

Part Number is 035919369M. The $6 FAE part was at
http://www.autohausaz.com/. The $24 Bosch part was at
http://www.sjmauto.com/. Scott Mockry of SJM Auto is a lister and regularly
shares his knowledge.
My symptoms are a faltering idle, sometimes stalling with a cold engine. I
have new plugs, O2 sensor, plug connectors, filters, and no air/vacuum leaks
that I can determine. When she warms up, all is well.
I may be dreaming too but reality sometimes sucks.
