I would question the "works every bit as well" assertion for the  plastic 
one.  I would not expect it last much more than a few cycles of  hanging 50+ lb 
17x8 wheels/tires.

The ECS pins or Mercedes pins are the  way to go.  What I like about the 
Mercedes pins is that they are flared  out to accommodate the diameter of the bolt 
hole in the wheel rather than  being a straight 14mm diameter throughout.  
Samstag Sales sells them on  Ebay occasionally for $9.95, or you could just 
order from them directly  (samstagsales.com).  Another source for the steel pins 
is  metalnerd.  I recall seeing that as one of the things they offered when  
that link was posted during last week's brake tool discussion.  They were  
selling them for $9.95. I forget the  link.

I just went down to the local hardware store, bought 2-1/2 or 3"  inch long 
metric bolts and cut the heads off. I made several for all my Audis,  and don't 
think I spent over $6.
