[s-cars] Rust free not

Hey Fred,

Describes my problem exactly. Didn't take much convincing of the local
dealer to replace. So if anyone is seeing this and still within warranty,
then go for it.

Mark;

>From what I've seen, the S6 hoods rust along the right and left edge about
2
feet forward of the windshield. The ones I've seen look like internal
corrosion - the paint is badly bubbled but the paint surface is generally
intact. I was just looking at a '97 - it had a strip about 1 foot long that
was severely bubbled on the right hand edge of the hood. The story I heard
was that Audi had changed their stamping lube and the new lube turned out to
be corrosive. Don't know if that's true or not, but I'm aware of a number of
S6's with corroded hoods, so if yours is still OK I'd get some good
"creeping" rustproofing compound and try to get it inside the seams along
both sides of the hood.

Where on the hood Keith? I'm with a 95.5 and just cleaned/washed/waxed the
bejeepers(sp?) out of her and failed to notice anything resembling rust.
Does it occur under the hood liner? I'm not questioning your statement just
want to check in and around those places IF there is any commonality amongst
the "tons".

Regards,

Mark

I haven't seen many 92-94 cars with serious rust, but there seems to
be tons of 95-96 cars with rust problems, especially on the hood. I
wonder if there was a problem with the e-coat tank for a couple of
years???

Cheers,
Keith
