Ah yes, only one dowel lines up. The other one must be removed. The
difference between the DSY and the EDU is the transmission cooler pump.
The US cars (EDU) did not get it. The gear ratios and gears are the
same. Charlie's page on 01E transmissions has lots of information.

I'm sure they used a 01E transmission and maybe even a DSY in the RS6
race car, but I'm sure they used an RS2 or better mainshaft. The stock
DSY (or EDU) mainshaft is not flexible like the RS2 mainshaft. I also
didn't mean to imply that your transmission was cheap. I was just
saying that occasionally a wrecker doesn't know what he has or doesn't
care. Chris Chambers was quoted 5k for an EDU from his local wrecker
just today.

Gabriel,
What about the alignment dowels. On my DSY only one of the dowels could
be used. Also, I "think" the euro 2000-2002 DSY tranny like the one I
have is the same one they use in the RS6 race car that does 0-60 in 2.8
seconds. Randy Pobst told me this two years ago at Sears Point. I'm sure
they do some work to first gear to handle that abuse but that tranny is
supposed to be very strong on its own. I have had guys offer me $4k for
mine but I want it in the es2.

To summarize:
If you have an S6, you may or may not have to notch the
bellhousing.
You will need some different length bolts.
If you have an S4, you may or may not have to notch the
bellhousing.
You will need some different length bolts. Only two of the 4
required
bosses for the Procon ten bracket remain. You will need to
engineer a
way to secure it. Either weld two bosses to the centre casing
or use a
steel cable as a choker or invent something else. Please keep
it.
Sometimes you can get these transmissions cheap, and you don't
have to
get them shipped from Europe. I know someone who got one for
$750. ;)
