Calvin,
I run 245/40/17 ET 35 with no problems on a '92 S4 avant. Just a large gap between fender and top of tire. No rubbin or tires sticking out.
I've tried S8 rims 245/40/18 ET45 no problems. No rubbin or tires sticking out. I'm going to buy these rims and put some 225/40/18 Conti's on it.
If you need apicture of the current setup, let me know.
Good luck.
Willem

Let me ask you guys a question about these tire sizes while we are at it.
I
recently got 17x8s with 225/45/17s on them. If I went any wider I would
have the "low rider look," i.e. tires sticking out past the fender flares,
do you guys that run 245s and 255s just live with this, are you using 45mm
offsets, or what? Just an observation.

What off set are yours Calvin?
To answer your question, no, my 17x8 et35 Avus mit 255/40/17s Contis fit
flush to the fender edge basically. I think other tires might have
'rounder' sidewalls and look more beefy (we'll see when I mount my Cum-ho
MX's up, if Tire Crack ever f'n SENDS THEM), the ContiSports had razor flush
sidewalls, very flat.
But no, not low rider looking at all, whatsoever. I'm pretty conservative
when it comes to a car's looks and like to stay as OE appearing as is
feasible, and I think it looks 100% perfect for the car. Couldn't ask for a
better fit, IMO. IMfurtherO, the et43 and 45 wheels look downright SILLY on
the C4 cars, BTseenT. Silly.
HTH.
