[s-cars] Engine Rebuild Questions

Keith,
Just don't let him hone the block in the car... the only way he can do that is with a ball hone. While a ball hone might be better than nothing, it is not a precision tool that will result in truly round cylinder bores. To do a hone properly, the block should be stripped, and a torque plate installed to simulate the presence of a cylinder head. All this requires the engine to be out of the car.
Good luck,
Dave

I don't have the facilities or skills to do a full engine rebuild
myself, so this is all being done at shop which has a lot of
experience with German engines. This also explains the parts prices
being slightly marked up, but the benefit to this is that there is a
warranty with the whole job. I hadn't discussed honing with the
mechanic before; I will make a point to do that.

Thanks to all for all the tips and information.

Cheers,
Keith
