Thanks all. Deed is done. PCBs are separated and ready for de-soldering.
Interestingly, didn't have to cut carpet to extract ECU. There was a tie
wrap in top left corner holding it together, strange tho ECu has not been
tampered with.
Assume flying lead with loop wire in connector is the speed limiter that can
now be removed - I've actually tested this "feature" and it is quite violent
when it kicks in.
No doubt will post results of test drive...:)
Thanks again,
Tony

Thdere are thfree stand-offs which need to be separated at the "hinge" end
of the folded boards. The center pin has a small plastic insert which locks
it in place. Turn the ECU upside doawn so that the metal base is on top and
then use a needle nosed pliers to pull the center pin of that connector. It
has a dark bottom tip visible at the center bottom of the post. Grab it and
pull it out.
Now turn the ECU over and use a reasonably soft lever to apply a bit of
pressure to pop apart the two connectors (one at each end of the "hinge".
One part is shaped a bit like the rook of a chess set.
Now go to the connector end. Find two small catches, one at each end.
Insert something in these catches to hold them open. I use a couple of
wooden toothpicks to do this but just about anything small will do the job.
Leave the toothpicks in place. Lift and pull on the top board while
pressing down and in on the top row of connectors. The top board will pop
loose ans slide away from the connector. It is now open.
It takes a lot longer to write it up than it does to do it.
