I'll reply to #3.  This function is controlled by a computer located on the
passenger side under the rear seat.  There's a well-documented issue with
that computer which causes all kinds of crazy electrical problems in the
car, the solution to these problems is to cut a yellow wire which disables
this automatic closing feature but fixes all the other gremlins.  Check out
Scott Mockry's web site www.sjmautotechnik.com where it's described in
detail.  

BTW, I think you can still order mats from the dealer, not quite like the
original high quality ones but they have the Audi rings ;)
