[s-cars] AC conversion

Hello S-Guys,

Long time lurker just wanting to let the list know that there is a low
pressure port on the 1992 R-12 systems at least. If you unscrew the low
pressure switch (located under the fresh air box tray just above the
evaporator) you will find its attached to a regular Schrader valve. This
port could be used for "regular" low pressure fills.

I need some advice here.

The AC in my 92 S4 is not working. I had my local mechanic check the
system
over and they tell me there are no leaks and I need a re-charge of R-12
(2.25 lbs) at a rate of $90/lb.

First of all, I don't understand why it is all gone if it has no leaks?
I
have owned the car for 5 yrs now without a re-charge. The system was
re-charged just before purchasing and all has been well except until
recently.

Second, they tell me there is no way to conver the system to R134. They
tell me it can't be converted becouse there is no low side port. Is this
really true?

Am I better off to shell out $200+ on R-12 or should I, can I pursue a
134
conversion.

Thanks for any input.

Jack
