Jack,
I find the rush to convert curious. IMHO, this is a very questionable
way to "save" $100 or so; who knows what kind of cooling or
reliability issues you will have down the line. I say run what God
and Audi intended in the AC system.
As for the leak, I have the same problem with the wife's 99 A6. My
experiance has been that if you check the grill and find four rings
(yep, it's an Audi), you need an evaporator :-(

I need some advice here.
The AC in my 92 S4 is not working. I had my local mechanic check the
system
over and they tell me there are no leaks and I need a re-charge of R-12
(2.25 lbs) at a rate of $90/lb.
First of all, I don't understand why it is all gone if it has no leaks?
I
have owned the car for 5 yrs now without a re-charge. The system was
re-charged just before purchasing and all has been well except until
recently.
Second, they tell me there is no way to conver the system to R134. They
tell me it can't be converted becouse there is no low side port. Is this
really true?
Am I better off to shell out $200+ on R-12 or should I, can I pursue a
134
conversion.
Thanks for any input.
