[s-cars] RE : Extractor for control arm bushing sleeve

The control arms I got are used ones from Gabriel Caldwell and I bought 5K
boots as the original had surface cracks(for the price Gabriel asked I can't
complain). That's why I asked how to avoid punching the new boots as I
usually wrench alone. It seems I will need some helping hands on this one.
Now, I have to find the "Hydraulic Valve Lifter Puller" Paul (cello)
mentionned as I'm pretty sure a needle nose plier won't have enough grab to
pull a sleeve soaked with salty water during nine years.

Thanks everyone for your help and, hopefully, I'll be able to take curves at
75mph within a week (I LOVE canadian unofficial speed limits, except when
I'm above 80 in Europe).

Vincent.

Control arm "boot" is not available separately HOWEVER the boot from a 5K
works just fine - BTDT. The opening for the stud on the 5K boot is a tad
bit smaller than that for the //S but works like a charm.

I just happen to have a 5K boot sitting in front of me. Part number is
431407377A. Purchased at GPR many moons ago so I don't recall cost but...

Regards,

Mark

I push out sleeve with perfect size socket. alternatively buy new sleeves
4A0 399 413 A $10ish ea

I have damaged ball joint boot reassembling as you say. While on jack stands
another jack or 2 to get everything in the right spot can get-r-done.
Patience, technique, and avoiding reckless wrestling and I haven't hurt
another since. Of course this applies to nearly all auto work.

On that topic Where can a person get tie rod and ball joint boots. On a 944
I had with good but not replacable joints and bad boots I searched the shelf
at a parts store till I found ball joints with boots that would work and
pirated them. Of course throwing away the joints thereafter. Since then I've
seen someone on ebay selling them. I'd like to buy and have in stock just
for such occasions. I guess calling rebuilders may reveal a source.

Bye for now

Todd
