[s-cars] HID Group Buy Info

Send email to Andy Chiu (anchiu35_at_hotmail_dot_com) with subject line
'CBR1100XX Group Buy'. You need to tell him the socket type (9006 low beam
for DOT S4 lights, H3 for Euros).
Nice thing is that it comes with connectors where you can just remove
existing bulb and plug right into compatible connector on the HID kit.
$185 delivered for 5300K color temp 9006 or H3. Price increases for higher
color temps, but you get less light too! Stick with 5300K in my humble
opinion.

i've still got the intermittent boost problem. sometimes
no boost, sometimes lots of boost, during the same operation
cycle (i.e. the boost seems more or less random and doesn't
seem to depend on whether i turn the car off).
after bob replaced his rubber hoses, i decided to do the
same. under the hood of my '92 S4, there is a small rubber
hose that runs from the moisture separator on the firewall
to a tee. at the tee, the hose is crimped and the connection
is able to swivel freely. the tee has two other hoses coming
out of it, which are both crimped at the tee end. one hose
goes under the black fuel rail cover and is clamped to what
looks like a fuel pressure regulator. the other hose is
clamped to a boss on the intake manifold.
the hose running from the tee to the fuel pressure regulator
has been chafing against the black cover and looks like it's
just about worn all the way through. this may be the source
of my problem. i want to replace all three hoses coming out
of the tee.
the problem is, they all have crimps at the tee end. i'd
like to cut the crimps off and install new fuel hose with
gear clamps. will this work? i've never cut into a crimped
connection before, so i'm not entirely sure what i'll find.
it seems reasonable that a hose clamp would be fine for
securing the new hose, after i cut off the crimp and remove
the old hose, but i'd like to make sure before i start
cutting something that i can't replace easily.
any thoughts? has anybody done this before?

Chris,
Rather than an aftermarket gauge you can get one from an S4. The S4 has
water temp, oil press, oil temp, fuel, and a clock. The S6 has the same
thing except that the oil pressure gauge was replaced with a
voltmeter.....Nobody knows why they got rid of the awesome gauge package
in
the 200's in order to give us, of all things, an analog clock! It's
even
worse in my 2001 A6, all you have is fuel, water temp, and oil temp. If
I
had to pick gauges in order of what I wanted in the car, the first would
be
a tach and the next would be oil pressure. Unless I am tracking my car
or
driving wise open on the autobahn chances are that my oil temp is going
to
be fine. After ruining my very first engine rebuild because the oil
pump
pickup came loose and I didn't realize it because all I had was a idiot
light for oil pressure I don't drive cars without oil pressure gauges.
You
can always just put in a mechanical gauge. They are more accurate and
cheaper.

Subject: [s-cars] Oil Pressure Gauge & Sender Install?
Howdy Folks,
Relatively new to the S-Car list and have been lurking for a bit but
some
may remember me from the 200q-20v list. Yes, I have made the upgrade to
an
S6 like many of you, though I still have my 200q..
I have a query regarding installation of an aftermarket oil pressure
gauge - which the bean-counters erred in omitting. Does anybody know
for
certain what aftermarket gauges are compatible with the OEM sending unit
as
used on the 3B - and I believe early versions of the AAN/S4?
Also, it appears the port where the 3B sender is normally installed is
now
'plugged' - is this simply a threaded plug or is it something more
permanent? I would prefer to utilize this port rather than a T-fitting
in
the pressure warning sensor port now in use.
Any help/BTDT on the topic would be appreciated - I have searched the
archives, among other sources, with no real luck or direction..
Thanks in advance,
Chris Hemberger

That was my reasoning as well, Mark, so I ordered a set as well. Andy
is
having a hard time accepting that I have an address of Rt. 4, Box 57 and
not one like 1234 Gatewood Road. My FedEx and UPS men and I are on a
first
name basis.

I bought a pair of new OEM ecode headlights from ebay.de and they
arrived
with one mounting tab on each broken. Packaging design problem -- these
tabs
stick out and got broken in transit.
What should I use to rebuild and reinforce these tabs? Is JB Weld the
right
stuff?
Comments appreciated.

I actually think the bixenon projectors are quite nice- the Audi ones
work
very well. I guess all bixenons are not created equal, because the Valeo
bixenons in our Volvo are terrible- very slow to switch to high beam,
slow
to light, totally useless for flash-to-pass. If I had to drive the car
all
the time, I would invest in euro-spec V70R headlamps to gain the
dedicated
flash-to-pass halogen high beam, even if I lose the stupid DRL.

Well, bi-xenons are a different story. I bought a set of hi/lo H4's and
they work well, as they have a movable shield that slides to create a
high beam focal point.
Again, though, that works only when you switch to high beam when the low
beams are already on. It stinks for flash to pass since the warm up time
on HIDs is long enough that whomever you are flashing is gone long
before they get bright enough to accomplish anything.
