I didn't use a mask, just used a felt pen to mark the cut first. The
beam pattern mask is upside down and backwards, but I expected this from
a lens. Just bend the beam mask out, mark the cut from the notch in the
center of the DOT beam pattern to the bottom of the outside alignment
tab (there's a small alignment tab on each side of the mask), and then
cut. Takes about five minutes per low beam one the headlamp is
disassembled. I used some fine sand paper to remove the burs and smooth
the edge out again, then bent the tab back in to it's original position.

The DOT mask is like this:

        | |
        | _______________|
        |______________|

Once cut it looks (something) like this, but at a much less severe angle
(imagine the diagonal cut ending where the right edge does in the top
ASCII illustration:

        | /
        | /
        | /
        |______________/

Just to be on the safe side before I actually cut the mask, I inserted a
paper cutout of my planned cut and then shone a pen light beam through
the lens assembly onto the wall to ensure I was going to get the beam
pattern I was looking for. I used on old euro beam Hella headlight
assembly from an old Volkswagen I used to own to compare the "new" low
beam pattern to an actual euro beam pattern. They matched, so I went ahead.
