my fellow s-dudes...

hey a few of you know by now (cause your in the parts bizz... 8-) that I spun a bearing in my beloved 94 S4 last week. The diagnosis is not good. More damage than I had hoped. No warning. Motor was completely rebuilt 23k miles ago. Oil changed religiously. Always warm up before stating off. Was running great, developed what I would call a card in the spokes kind of noise and within 15 miles or so was rap'ing like crazy. Shut it down but the damage was done.... 8-( Looks like a shortblock will take care of it although how much crud went through the top of the motor is still in question... Ya, I'm sick about it.

But, there's a bright side to every story. (ok, maybe not but I need something to keep me from crying in my beer) Since my Urq just went into storage and the latest Audi won't pass state inspection and I need SOMETHING to drive I decided to take back my trusty 94 100csq from my eldest son (who's VW just went back on the road). Seems he did more damage to this car in the six months he's been driving it that the entire time I've owned it. One particular trouble spot is some front end damage which had taken out one of the headlight washers.
I never realized just how much distance you can get out of that little pump with the nozzle removed (damaged). First time I hit the washer, it pissed all over the rear of a Jetta I was behind at a light. I quickly motioned I didn't realize it would do that and the guy had enough of a sense of humor to catch me with a blast of his miss aligned washer from over his roof line. Let the fun begin ! With the wife in the car we were in tears trying to get close enough for a counter attack.... At every stop I would show off my new found mod for anyone glancing my way. The looks were priceless. Cleaner is cheap enough these days that I have no plans to fix either !

Man, I gotta see a shrink....

thanks for listening,

tom.
