[s-cars] engine speed sensor fault code (G28)

You are getting that code because the car is not running.  You should pull the codes with the car running if possible.  It's nothing to worry about.

i ran the VAG-COM diagnostics on my '92 S4.  the only
code that came up was engine speed sensor (G28).
however, the engine was not running at the time i checked
codes.  the check engine light never went on.

sounds like i don't have a problem there.  but why don't
i get a code for the reference sensor, if it's the same
kind of sensor?
