[s-cars] Still on 4 cylinders...

Sorry I am jumping in late here, but have you tried another ECU? I
currently have an ECU that got a bit rusty inside and will not fire
cylinder no. 5. The ECU does not throw code 1111 (bad ECU), but it is
definitely bad.

Subject: Re: [s-cars] Still on 4 cylinders...
An answer to today's comments on my //S4cylinder.
I have installed all new boots on the coils.
#4 coil is new.
The first thing I did was try swapping another complete coil pack from
my
spare AAN on a stand. No help.
I tried swapping POS's, no help.
I tried the POS's from the spare engine, no help.
I purchased new POS's anyway, no help.
I then tried swapping injectors. No help.
While I was replacing the injector inserts, I was able to visually
inspect
the top(s) of the intake valves. They were all clean and consistent to
each
other.
The parts that I have been trying from my spare AAN came from a
perfectly
running car, before it was totaled from the rear. The engine was out and
on a
stand within days of the accident. In fact, it still started up and
drove, I even
drove it off the roll back when I received delivery.
I haven't done a cylinder leak down test. Since I had the best
compression
reading from cylinder 4, I didn't deem it necessary to go forth with a
leak down
test. I can still do that.
Today I ordered the following:
20 new lifters
V/C gasket set
Timing belt and associated parts
Water pump and associated parts
Thermostat
Serp belt
While I have the V/C off, I will inspect for any broken valve train
parts.
Valve train parts usually make some sort of noise when they are broken.
Also, some of you know, this is a Lehmann modified engine prepared by
John
Buffum at Libra Racing back in 1996. I have been talking with John a lot
lately
and I have contacted Mr. Lehmann about this issue. The list of mods are
as
follows:
Lehmann prepared cylinder head, extrude honed
Lehmann modified RS2 EM, extrude honed
Lehmann modified RS2 turbo
Lehmann ECU (obviously)
Bosch 3 bar pressure transducer
RS2 fuel injectors
Lehmann modified pistons, lowered compression to 8.5:1 from 9.3:1
A good friend of mine mentioned a possible cracked piston ring.
