The difference between a good synthetic oil 0w-40 and 15w-50 is not that 
much.  On a hot day, climbing mountains, the engine oil in my S4 will 
get up to 250 degrees F.  In the winter, I stay off the boost until the 
engine and oil warms up.  With conventional oil, one should be a little 
more concerned about the viscosity and film strength.
