Because I drove the Miata yesterday. And the second key+fob is on the
ring with the miata key. And the first key+fob is on the ring with
the rest of my keys. And I had left the Miata key in my jacket
pocket.

Nope, see above.

Full story - come out of Dr. Office (sinus infection) and both remotes
won't unlock the car.
Fiddle around a bit, check fuses.. Start car. Shut off car. Get out
Both remotes lock and unlock
Drive away
Witness old man back into a parked car twice, hard, while parallel parking.
Stop to get out of car to leave license plate number of offender on
the bashee's windshield (very sore spot for me after somebody left a
trailer receiver imprint on my S2000's front bumper).
Both remotes won't work to lock the car
Get around corner, bashee is already gone. Rats
Both remotes won't work to unlock the car.
Drive away.
Stop at speedway to get drink
Both remotes won't work to lock the car
get drink
come back out
One remote works to unlock (didn't try both at this point)
Hmmmmm ????

THis is a bummer, as it would be nice to leave the car running (in teh
cold winter), and get out and lock with the remote while you "run in
real quick to _____________"

Sometimes the owners temporarily lose their minds!
