So don't know if this is it, but if you car is used to let's say dino
oil. Then for years all of the oil seal, the rubber itself is filled
will dino oil, and it's this balance of oil inside of the seal and
outside that keeps the oil seals from drying out..and lasting longer
than they would if there was no oil around or in them. When you switch
to a synthetic the base stock is different and although it is miscible
with the dino oil it will not replace it in the oil seals, and they tend
to dry out and then start to leak. So is this pentosin a dino oil or
maybe a synthetic blend? If so it might make sence, otherwise I am
wrong again...damn.

Subject: [s-cars] oil consumption
During the recent timing belt install, my mechanic changed the oil and
put Pentosin 5w-40 in the car. I previously used only Mobil1 10w-40
(green cap), which the car consumed at a rate of about 1 qt per
3,500miles. with the 5w-40, the car uses absolutely no oil, nada,
zilch. Somehow, this seems counterinuitive, and I am wondering if this
is due to the viscosity or a manufacturing difference.
As always, thanks for any input.
Stefan
