Subject: [s-cars] ARGH!! Stalling at idle
I start my car in the morning and drive with little to no idling. The
symptoms are that when the car is cold and I get to a stop sign or
red-light
the RPM will dip more or less dependent on ambient temperature. On cold
days the engine will die. I have replaced within the last 5K miles:
New
ISV (thanks Paul K. for the kind offer of your spare), new plugs, new
plug
boots, fuel filter. I pressure tested the intake with nothing plugged
up to
about 15psi and get just a tiny leak at the MAF to turbo by the turbo.
VAG
only returns one code which is Adaptation Limit reached - or something
like
that. When the car is fully warmed up after 4 or 5 minutes of driving
all
symptoms disappear.
This is soooo temperature related that I have to believe it has
something to
do with a temperature sensor (MFTS replaced 15K miles ago; Oil temp
sender
replaced 10K Miles ago) or perhaps my O2 "heater" is not working
properly.

You sure it was my ISV? I don't recall having a spare! 8-) Had I,
you'd be welcome to it certainly but it was maybe someone elses. Anyway
did you clean the bejeezus out of it first?
Many here have / have had cars that do / have done the same. Mine used
to do it more often, now only very rarely. Also enjoyed the 'fun' of
the 'just off the long hard highway commute, shift into neutral and
flameout'. Yay!
One thing that changed that may be making mine now very rare is I
apparently had some sort of vacuum leak under the intake manifold that
NEA fixed while R&Ring my headgasket, etc. Have a peek?
Good luck, certainly, and YMMV! It's more embarrassing / annoying than
anything, esp. say when you have a client in the car with you or like
the president of the bank or something. Typical.

ps. get that MAF hose leak remedied, seen quite a few of those, will
only further denigrate and cause more issue.
