I agree totally but there were no 96 or 97 S6's in the US.

It was a federal regulation that all cars sold in the US (possibly North
America) had to have OBD-2. There were no exceptions, other than perhaps
some unusual ultra-low production vehicles or soemthing running on fuel
other than gasoline.

I don't think the '96 and '97 S6's were OBDII complaint. They had an
OBDII style connector but the car was not OBDII compliant.

There were a handfull of I5's obd2 compliant, mainly the 96-up S6's
which
were made into 1997 I believe. They are very rare however. I also dont
think
that 12/31/95 was that critical, rather any car dubbed as a 1996 MY car
had
to have OBD-2 electronics.
