I have to go with Mr Eiche's diagnosis on this one. When my car was down for
the intended tubular manifold install we did a lot of routine maintenance. One
of things we did was to pull the alternator so I could take the outer case to
the EPA Superfund site polish shop to get it polished;-) While it was out of
there we replaced the brushes. My car had 162,000 miles and they were
basically shot. One brush was barely there and we estimated less than a thousand mile
until failure. Thanks again to Dave Dawson for all his help and wrenching to
get me through this.
