To all who care,
I went to the Chicago Auto today and the VW booth had a cut-away of their 5
cylinder engine. It is definitely an inline 5. Looks somewhat petite. It
is a dual overhead cam design with the cams working on rockers and pushrods
that affect the valves, not a semi-direct drive system like our beloved Audi 5.
A noticeable improvement over Audi is that the cams are driven by an
internal chain at the rear of the engine. The engine is spec'ed at 2.5 liters and
150 HP.
I went over to Audi, no real excitement there. The A3 looks nice. The A8
with the W12 engine is way big bucks at $117K. Gave the Audi rep some sh*t -
no S cars with turbos etc.
Big disappointment - last year Audi had some very nice posters. I picked up
two different ones at last year's Charity night and had them framed. This
year no posters!
Lastly, this is heresy so you may not want to read further. My kid made me
go to the Corvette area. The new ZO6 is extremely tempting. 500HP, 0-60 in
<4 sec. 1/4 mile in 11 seconds, cornering >1g., top speed 190 and more. It
looks great in yellow. I don't know, after 23 years of Porsches and Audis the
next play car may not be a P-car.
Mark wowed in Chicago
